Sermon Translate translates a French sermon into English captions, or an English sermon into French, while the pastor speaks. It suits francophone African and Haitian churches with English-speaking young people, and English-speaking churches with French-speaking members.
Francophone churches with an English-speaking next generation
In many francophone immigrant churches the parents pray in French and the children answer in English. With French preaching and English captions on the screen, one service can hold both, and the order can reverse when an English-speaking guest preaches.
What Sermon Translate does in French
French works in both directions: a preacher can speak French into the app, and members can read the sermon in French.
- The 66 Bible book names are built in for French, taken from a published French Bible, so a spoken book name comes out the way that Bible writes it. Other church vocabulary is general translation guided by church context, and your church glossary fixes the terms that matter to you.
- Verse popups cannot show the passage in French yet, because the Bible editions connected today cover only English, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Farsi / Persian, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.
More than two languages in one room
A francophone African congregation often also speaks Lingala, Swahili or another home language, and a Haitian congregation speaks Kreyòl. Swahili and Haitian Creole are both supported caption languages. The Subtitles screen shows up to 5 caption languages together. Each reading language uses plan time of its own: two reading languages during a one hour service use two hours of the plan.

Store the names of your pastors, choirs and ministries, and the French wording your church prefers for titles such as pasteur, diacre or ancien, in the church glossary, and every translation uses them.

The 66 book names were taken from the Louis Segond translation, so a spoken book name comes out the way that Bible writes it.
Is Lingala supported?
No, Lingala is not one of the supported languages today. Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Haitian Creole and French are.
Can a verse popup show the French Bible text?
